Gourmet Garage Tops New York Food & Beverage Retailer List
New York, NY July 23, 2004 -- Gourmet Garage, Manhattan's premier specialty food marketplace, has been ranked as one of the top three New York City food/beverage retailers by Cascadia Consulting Group. The leading three food and beverage accounts ranked by volume and prestige are Fairway, Dean & Deluca, and Gourmet Garage, respectively.
Cascadia, consultants to the food and beverage industry, released their annual list of 250 plus key food and beverage retailers last week. The comprehensive list includes gourmet shops, natural food markets, cafe's, caterers and butcher shops.
"Most brands do not launch initially at places like 7-11 or Safeway and become consumer hits overnight. Before you get to those types of accounts you have to already have a consumer following to assure success. Some of these accounts can make or break a new brand," states Bill Sipper, Senior Partner at Cascadia Consulting Group. Sipper adds that "Gourmet Garage is one such ‘brand builder' that revolutionized its category in New York City and opened multiple locations using similar formats."
"We are delighted to be recognized as a major player in New York City's prestigious food and beverage market. Our mission has been the same since day one - - to bring the freshest and finest specialty food to New York. We pride ourselves on building many young brands." explained Gourmet Garage CEO and President Andy Arons.
Gourmet Garage was founded in 1981 as a wholesale distribution company servicing New York's finest restaurants. Gourmet Garage first opened their doors to the public ten years ago at the Soho warehouse in New York City.
Recently, Gourmet Garage was selected by New York Magazine as one of "the best food markets in New York City" and was named 2002 Retailer of the Year by The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT).
Gourmet Garage locations include Eastside, 301 E. 64th St. (between 1st & 2nd), SOHO, and 453 Broome St., at Mercer (at Mercer St.), Village, 117 Seventh Ave. South (at 10th St.),and Westside, 2567 Broadway at 96th (at 96th St.).
